Kathy Babula

Kathy Babula is a veteran classroom educator, having taught Spanish to middle through high school students for 30+ years in the Charlotte area, including Matthews Elementary, Elizabeth Traditional, Central Cabarrus High School, and 29 years at Charlotte Country Day Middle School. The pressures of a fast-paced educational workplace led Ms. Babula to begin her mindfulness studies with Ranjit Deora in 2008. As a long-time observer of the stress that adolescence can bring, she has a special interest in sharing her practice of mindfulness meditation with students, parents and teachers.

As Director of Education for Youth Meditation, Ms. Babula promotes the unique experiential method of teaching and learning that Ranjit Deora’s lessons ensure. Through purposeful self-exploration, students of all ages discover how to manage their emotions with confidence. As an instructor, Ms. Babula has experienced the power of YM’s Mindfulness Meditation course in several K-8 settings that include Ashley Park Elementary, Michelle in the Middle and Freedom Schools programs. Ms. Babula teaches meditation as part of Charlotte Country Day Middle School’s 7th grade health curriculum and her Mindfulness Meditation course is offered to teachers there as a professional development credit option.

As an instructor at Charlotte Meditation (https://www.charlottemeditation.com/), Ms. Babula teaches private lessons and offers a monthly group “meet up” for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. (https://www.meetup.com/www-charttemeditation-com/)

Ms. Babula graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Spanish, attended UNC-Charlotte to earn her education degree and has accumulated credits towards an MA degree in Counseling. Recent coursework includes Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindful Educator Essentials (Mindful Schools, California).
